Grubby Quits Dota 2 & Points Out the Toxicity in the Community

Warcraft III veteran Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen announced he was quitting Dota 2 after playing the game for more than a year. The sudden decision to forgo Dota 2 despite having numerous good things to say about the game was due to the toxic nature of people Grubby encountered in his journey to the Immortal bracket. However, he also remarked that this did not mean he was quitting the game indefinitely. The Warcraft III veteran started completely new to the game one and a half years ago and impressively managed to reach the Immortal bracket within the time frame.

Grubby’s Disappointment With Dota 2’s Toxic Community

My interest level in playing the game properly, and my mood levels dropped quite a lot. That’s me, I can’t change that about myself. Which means I’m no longer playing to win. Which is a very alien feeling for me and I think it’s a waste of time for me to spend my time like that. I have better experiences that I wanna get out of games and out of life than that,” expressed Grubby.

Grubby further added, “If the community was better, Dota 2 would be one of the most fun communities to be a part of. Because there are so many intelligent people, there’s a lot of passionate players.

He further revealed that the very reason he started streaming years ago was due to such aforementioned ‘passionate and intelligent players,’ which made him feel like there were other people like him out there.

Grubby, who has been a professional Warcraft III player for over 11 years, said that he likes to play to win and have fun at the same time, hence why he decided to try out Dota 2. As a newbie to the game, he immediately noticed the toxic traits of the Dota 2 community but remained optimistic about it and convinced himself he could handle it.

However, many unfortunate instances where he encountered toxic players, griefers, and “players who don’t enjoy the game anymore,” finally took a toll on him and made him realize he could be having a lot more fun playing other games.

Grubby further emphasized that his leave from Dota 2 was not indefinite and he would be playing the game from time to time, but in the meantime, he would be trying out other games.
