Yatoro’s Nickname Change Attempts Fail, He Asks Valve for Smurf Permission

Valve has long voiced opposition to playing under Dota 2 smurf accounts, and over the past year, the company has issued a series of significant ban hammers to tackle the issue. Today, smurfs have greatly diminished in number, and even professional players have had their alternate accounts banned. However, Team Spirit’s carry player Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk recently made a cheeky appeal to Valve to allow him to create a smurf due to an ongoing problem he has been facing. According to Yatoro, he has been unable to change his official nickname in the game for quite some time, and as such, a new account would help him resolve the issue.

Yatoro asks Valve about the possibility of a smurf after failure to change the nickname

On Telegram, Yatoro had a lighthearted message to Valve, expressing concerns over his inability to change his nickname and as such, asking for the possibility of creating a smurf account as a solution to his dilemma.

“Dear Valve, could you please grant me access to change my official nickname, which I’ve been trying to do for the past three months without success? Alternatively, could you provide me with information on whether I can create a smurf account with the official nickname of my choice. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope this message reaches your attention.”

Yatoro has had one of his Smurf accounts banned in the past, and he had stated at the time that he had another one he played very little on, and talking about it then would likely lead to it being banned too. Interestingly, Yatoro had also pointed out at the time that Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi’s accounts had not been banned, and shortly after, his smurfs were also taken down.

Due to Yatoro’s request for one, it is likely that his main account, which ranks 19th on the Dota 2 Leaderboards in Europe, is his only active profile

As the player picks up crucial practice in pubs, he will attempt to up the ante for Team Spirit, which finished 5th-6th at BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, the team’s first LAN since winning The International 12 (TI12). Team Spirit and Yatoro will next compete in DreamLeague Season 22, which begins on 25th Feb 2024.
